Selma Tax Sale Advice

Posted by 15789465 on

I'm looking for advice from you people, if anyone has experience in this area. I just learned that the city of Selma (in Dallas County) assesses, collects, and forecloses its OWN ad valorem taxes. If no taxes are paid at all, the county has its tax sale, and the city has its own tax sale. Tax liens might be purchased by two different people.  Anyone have any experience with this process? I've heard they are the ONLY city in the state of Alabama authorized to do this.

  • Also, this is why State price quotes say they include all taxes except City of Selma.

  • I do not purchase properties in the City of Selma for this reason. I have been told though that people usually result battling it out in court. One person even said that the first tax sale is usually given the preference to choose to redeem the orber tax sale purchaser’s interest. Needless to say, the majority of the properties in this area that are sold are not of the greatest quality.

  • You know, I’d seen that about “except city of Selma” and then didn’t even notice it any more.
